Atv winch is the winch that you need if you have an all terrain vehicle or atv. Atvs must navigate areas of difficult terrain and have the tendency of getting stuck. This is where an atv winch is needed, to pull the atv out if its four wheel drive doesn’t work. An atv winch can also be used move an obstacles that may block the path of the atv or help other vehicles that are having difficulties. There are a wide variety of winches and each has its own features and differences with some models having much more high tech detailing than others. Atv winches can be ranked according to their weights. You must be well versed with the weight limit for each atv winch before you try to hoist something with it.
Another important point to remember is the winching point of an atv winch. The winching point is the point where the cable must be attached. You will need to find something sturdy and heavy to attach this cable to, for example a tree of a concrete block. It should be in close vicinity to where your vehicle is stuck, in order to move the object necessary you must make sure that the secure point is not susceptible to suddenly breaking or coming off resulting in a disaster.
After you have done that, switch on the button that will unwind the spool of cable. Then attach this cable to the winching point. It is advisable here to loop the cable around the winching point once for maximum sturdiness. After that attach the hook at the end of the line to the cable itself.
Once you have safely secured the cable, start the atv winch. Ensure that the atv itself is running so you do not end up draining your battery. Then use the handle on the winch to pull out or up whatever the object, making sure you do it slowly so as not to disrupt the process with unnecessary jerking. Remember that if the load you are hoisting is very heavy, or the distance you are pulling is quite long it is better to give the atv winch a rest every once in a while so the machine wouldn’t overheat.
Once you are done take the hook off the winching cable and wind the winch back. You can turn the atv off before or after winding up the winch, but it is advisable to do it before so that the winch would not accidently keep turning while you are trying to handle it.
